Hot Work is loosely defined as any burning, cutting, welding, soldering or brazing operation for construction, demolition, maintenance, or other repair activities that require the use of portable gas or arc welding equipment. The use of these types of equipment for cutting and welding can introduce significant hazards and potential for injury due to the fact they create sparks and can initiate explosions or fires. Before this type of work can be undertaken, Hot Work Permits must be obtained by employees.
The Hot Work Permit system in place by GSD helps to assure that the individuals involved in construction, renovation, repairs, and maintenance of GSD facilities understand the hazards associated with hot work and welding. This understanding paired with adequate control measures helps mitigate overall risks to facilities and personnel.
