Every fall State Surplus holds a large two-week online public auction to sell vehicles, equipment and other items that state agencies have turned in throughout the year.
The 2024 auction begins on Saturday, September 14th and ends on Saturday, September 28th. The dates of the 2025 auction are yet to be determined.
As the sale gets closer, additional details may be found on the website of the auction contract holder, www.pateauction.com. There you will be able to register to bid, view pictures and videos of the auction items, learn what payment methods are accepted and find out about the removal schedule.
Forty-day temporary registration permits will be available for most vehicles. For Montana residents title work for vehicles will be sent to your county's motor vehicle department 25 business days after the auction closes. Out-of-state titles will be mailed directly to the purchaser 25 business days after the auction closes. All purchasers must fill out a title information sheet which will be provided to winning bidders at the end of the sale.
